Jodie McLeod is an award-winning children’s author and publisher of four picture books, all illustrated by Eloise Short and published under Jodie’s own imprint, Wollemi Press.
All books aim to connect children with the natural world and embody the MO of Wollemi Press: to create stories worth sharing. Her first book Leonard the Lyrebird was translated into Italian and
published in 2021 by Italian Publisher Voglino Editrice. It was also adapted into a classical music composition – Leonard the Lyrebird: A Musical Story – composed by internationally acclaimed pianist
and composer Ian Munro.
With a degree in Creative Arts – Writing (Hons) at the University of Wollongong, Jodie has enjoyed a diverse career working with words: editing magazines, working in magazine publishing, writing feature articles for broadsheet newspapers, working with advertising agencies in TV, radio, print and online, and writing a range of music and fiction for creative projects.
Jodie regularly presents at primary schools to discuss writing and her books, and has conducted numerous writing workshops and writers’ residencies through literary organisation WestWords. Her
creative writing residency at Bennett Road Public School was featured in the 2022 Literature Symposium as an example of how WestWord’s programs are positively impacting student learning
and literacy.
When not writing Jodie can usually be found running the trails of the Blue Mountains where she lives with her husband and two daughters.
