In June 2021, Storyfest On the road… ventured to the South Burnett Region for 2 days. We had Louise Park and Will Kostakis join us from Sydney to head west for the first time!

On day one we visited Murgon State School and Moffatdale State School where both authors conducted large group presentations and intimate writing workshops for the students. The students were so excited to have visitors to their school and threw themselves into the activities. The highlight of the day was one student telling Louise what his favourite book was and seeing his shock when she told him that she wrote that book!

Day two was spent at Kingaroy State High School and Kingaroy State School. Will presented at the high school and had the opportunity to engage with the year 9 and 10 students. Will shared with them some of his personal experiences that led him to write for children and young adults. The students were so engaged with Will session, and some even stayed back after their session to ask more questions. The staff at Kingaroy State High School were so appreciative of Storyfest’s time and effort to visit their school.

Meanwhile Louise Park was at Kingaroy State School presenting to the little people. She told them all about the many books she’s written, and all the different names she writes under. The students got to take part in a writing workshop with Louise where they created their own dinosaur stories and shared them with the group. We were welcomed at Kingaroy State School with pictures, posters, displays and so many happy faces!

We can’t wait to take Storyfest On the road regionally again soon. We hope to make these visits more often and are aiming for three regional tours next year. Want Storyfest On the road… to visit your school? Send us an email at ontheroad@storyfest.com.au
